I’m trying to figure out what to do for work. My hubby works 7 days a wk and I work part-time and now my hours are being cut to like 1 day a wk. He grosses like $3200 and me usually $300-600. I do demos now and it’s one of the only jobs I ever had that I could not only keep but enjoy and feel like I’m good at. We live with my 3 yr old son from my ex who refuses to work and I’m pregnant with our 1st baby together due in June and if possible I’d like to maybe work on the side maybe doing mystery shops or something like that where I can bring the kids along for extra money and try to stay at home with the baby or work part-time, as I want to breastfeed and that. I was thinking of holiday jobs but I don’t want to have to give up my job now as I do make decent money when I get hours and a holiday job probably isn’t gonna work around your regular job and will more than likely dump you as soon as the holidays pass.

We are struggling and I feel like his mom and them keep pressuring me to get ANY job reguardless of pay or other circumstances. I feel like I should have at least SOME pride in finding a decent job as I did graduate college and should expect more pay than someone who didn’t. I owe $40K in student loans and can’t afford the payments so I on deferment.

I have a 3 yr old son so I would need daycare or a babysitter. I know a girl with 4 kids of her own who can watch him but worry about them not being as dependable as a daycare for instance if one of her kids got sick, emergency, etc. Plus I don’t know if I could put this on my child support that I’m paying as easily as a daycare and we make too much for daycare assistance.

Why must everyone insist even making min. wage is worth it? I have a 4 yr degree….my friend told me to go back to college and just get a General Studies degree which hasn’t proven to get me any type of job I could’nt get before I went back to college. It seems like all I can find is min. wage job and I can’t seem to keep those very well especially with feeling ashamed that I should be able to find better. Then it seems any professional type job I apply for I never even get an interview for. I applied at Job and Family, the courthouse, all jobs that probably would’nt be too difficult-no interview. I got excited when my sister-in-law’s job called me. She hasn’t worked before this job for like 7 yrs when she had her son and I thought maybe I could get in because I have a degree and she didn’t. She’s a bill collector making $14/hr plus commission so even if I had to been gone a lot-the money would be worth it. I had an interview but didn’t get the job. I just feel so discouraged because it seems like tons of people around me graduate college and instantly find a dream job or never went to school and make much more money yet I have to settle for what a high school kid makes. It kills my self esteem which doesn’t help working those jobs anyways and doesn’t motivate me.

I applied at Chick-fil-a as management online and got called back for a hostess/cashier job. I don’t understand why I can’t find a decent job. My current job I make $10.50/hr but drive an hr (about 43 miles or so) to work each way. Many of the jobs such as the Chick-fil-a near me are like 30 miles away in a bigger city-so how would with daycare/sitter, gas, etc. working min wage put me ahead?

I worked at a grocery store for like $7.25 or so an hr and grossed maybe $800 but after union dues of $20/wk. and taxes I took home maybe $400 of that and worked a lot more hrs than I do now. Now I could work 1 day a wk and though it sucks still make like $300 a mo. and before when I worked there it was 20 some hours a wk to make slightly more plus I paid a $32 co-pay for daycare before I got married and now we make too much to get help with that.

I was thinking about being a server but not sure if many are hiring along with if they need experience because I figured then I could at least make more than min. wage. I feel horrible as we are struggling but in June or so I will have me and my hubby’s 1st child and our 2nd in the house and daycare/sitter for 2 kids will be more so I wonder if I will stay home then or work. I want to work at least part-time to get away some for sanity lol plus I get depressed if I don’t work but don’t wanna be away too much from our new baby along with especially if I worked full-time and we were barely breaking even. I mean it’d be one thing if I was still living at home and didn’t have kids and made min. wage for spending money or to take care of my kids without bills but with $650 in rent a month, $600 every 2 months in heating every 2 mo’s in the winter, etc. making less might help us get some assistance till I can find a real job. Last winter before we got married we got all our heating paid for and that and still struggled so if I work and make a few hundred or so a month and pay hundreds in someone to watch my son and then 2 kids in June, how would I be getting ahead? I got heating help last yr but not sure if they will still give it now that we’re married.
And we live in a mobile home (trying to get the credit fixed to get a house) so it’s about $600/every 2 mo’s in the winter to fill the lovely propane tank and the park only lets you use one company for it too.
