McDonald’s Job Help, and other help with finding work with little/no experience.?

I’ve just applied online for a McDonald’s job, and will apply two or three more times online for other McDonald’s locations. All of them will be crew member jobs, you know the types of entry-level jobs that a high school or college student should be a shoe-in to get. However, with this economy(especially in my area where it is 11+% unemployment), things are a little tough. So my question, with reference to these McDonald’s applications, is should I call back to speak with the hiring manager at each location? If so, when should I call back? Should I give it a few days, or should I call tomorrow asking if they are hiring, and just showing my interest in obtaining a job there. Even if they don’t have my online application yet, maybe they will think “hey, this kid probably really wants this job, I’ll set up an interview.” Or should I go into the establishment to talk to the hiring manager? Albeit it being a job I should be able to get in a good economy, the way it currently is, I have to compete with experienced people for these types of jobs. So I want to try to get a foot in before others do with persistence. Any other advice would be helpful also.

As for the second-part of this post, what companies are doing well enough right now where they might realistically take a chance on hiring someone with little/no work experience? I’ve tried Walmart a few months ago, but nothing came out of that, but I am about to try them again. Many restaurants I’ve been to require lots of experience, even for busboys(huh?). I have experience tutoring, but that wasn’t a job, but something required for a class, and I’ve worked in a high school store for about three weeks, but I’ve lost any contact information to my marketing teacher/store ‘manager,’ so that’s basically useless as no one will be able to confirm anything. So yeah, any help/suggestions on stores to apply to/suggestions on how to better my chances at landing a job would be helpful!

BTW, I live in Tampa FL, and I’m a [just turned] 19 year old college student(yes, yes, I know it is pretty bad to be this old without any real job experience, but in my defense, I’ve been looking on-and-off for about a year now, just when the economy took a nice plunge into the toilet).

Thanks!
